Keňa Kii

Coffee from Kenya is a classic, but it can still be a pleasant surprise. This time we bring you traditionally washed beans with high fruitiness and a light, tea-like body. Fragrant notes of white peach and fresh blackcurrant will remind you of the summer dawn.

Keňa Kii

Located in the southern foothills of Mount Kenya, the processing plant benefits from rich red volcanic soil - the ideal environment for growing Kenya's premium coffee. Local farmers, who manage their small plots of about half an acre with about 250 coffee trees, regularly ship their hand-harvested coffee cherries here. The Kii processing plant is one of three under the prestigious Rungeto Farmers' Cooperative Society (FCS).

Despite its smaller size compared to other cooperatives, Rungeto has earned a strong position in the market thanks to its uncompromising approach to quality and precision in coffee processing.

Kia only accepts fully ripe coffee cherries. Once received, they undergo another manual sorting and density test, during which damaged and inferior cherries are removed. This is followed by a process of pulp removal, fermentation and careful washing. In addition, the washed coffee is soaked in fresh water for an extended period of time to preserve the typical Kenyan flavour profiles.

The drying process takes place on raised beds over a two-week period. These beds are designed to ensure optimum air circulation and maintenance of the ideal temperature, which guarantees gentle and efficient drying of the coffee beans.

Before export, the green grains go through a careful process of sorting by size and shape. This final stage ensures that the final product meets the required standards and maintains consistent quality.

The meticulous approach to growing, processing and preparing the coffee at the Kii processing plant and under the guidance of the Rungeto Farmers' Cooperative Society is testament to their dedication to exceptional quality. This precision has earned Kenyan coffee a well-deserved reputation and high demand in the fine coffee market.
